Brandon, MB. – When the curtain goes up on the 2012-13 Western Hockey League season Friday night at Westman Communications Group Place, 18-year old defenceman Ryan Pulock will be wearing the “C” on his Brandon Wheat Kings’ jersey.

The WHL club has confirmed that the Grandview, Manitoba product, who is entering his third season with the Wheat Kings, will become the 56th Captain in franchise history.

Pulock, who has led Brandon’s blueliners in scoring for the past two seasons, replaces Mark Stone who has graduated from the junior ranks and is about to begin Training Camp with the Ottawa Senators American Hockey League affiliate in Binghampton, New York.

Serving as the club's alternates this season will be veterans Ryley Miller, Jens Meilleur and Tyrel Seaman.

A former seventh round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings in 2009, Ryan was the third highest scoring defenceman in the WHL in 2011-12, setting career highs for goals (19), assists (41) and points (60). His 42 points as a rookie in 2010-11 established a new club record for 16-year old defencemen, breaking the previous standard set by Wade Redden (39) in 1993-94.

Pulock and the Wheat Kings will bring the curtain up on their 2012-13 regular season this weekend with a home and home series with the Regina Pats, beginning Friday night in Brandon.
