#11 MATT CALVERT: i was #11 in my bantam and midget years and i was given the number as soon as i joined the wheaties. it was my first choice
hockeychik4: that's good!..did you chose # 11 or was it given to you?
#11 MATT CALVERT: both. i wanted it but they had already gave it to me
Geoffrey: Hey Matt,I would have to say that your work ethic is the best I've seen in black and gold ever. Thats about 36 years worth of games. Your speed is a deadly weapon. What types of things help you keep your skating at such a high level?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i work on my skating every practice and when i have time in the summer i go to skating schools and as for the work ethic i love to compete every night
Geoffrey: Matt, if you got any faster, you prolly couldn't be seen by human eyes....lol
Rico: Do you remember your first AAA goal? who assisted on it and can you describe it?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i scored it in the 40th game of my first aaa midget year. i believe andrew gurba passed it to me. i was very excited. it took me 40 games tho haha
chickenlegz: Hey Matt what part of your game are you focusing on the most in order to make the Blue Jackets lineup in the future?
#11 MATT CALVERT: In order to crack the Blue Jackets lineup i'm going to have to keep working hard, work on my defensive game and keep getting faster
Geoffrey: In Blue Jackets camp, did you have any chance to play with Maksim Mayorov? Did you ever give a nudge to come to Brandon?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i played on a line with Max Mayorov in Columbus camp. he speaks some english and he's a good hockey player. i had talked to him about coming to Brandon and he seemed open to the idea. It was up to columbus where he went. It would have been nice to see him in a wheat kings uniform
hockeychik4: cool. what is your favorite colour?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite colour is blue
scitch: who is the best hitter you have played with. i hear there were some big hitters on your teams when you were younger
#11 MATT CALVERT: the best hitter i played with when i was younger was shayne wiebe. it would definitely be erby now. i can't cut in on a 1 on 1 in practice without getting my head taken off!
Rico: Which WHL rink do you think has the best ice?
#11 MATT CALVERT: the best ice would have to be in Edmonton at Rexall and Moose Jaw is pretty hard and fast too
Matt: do you have any siblings matt
#11 MATT CALVERT: i have two brothers
chickenlegz: Living in Medicine Hat I attend all the games when you guys are in town. What things do you think your team needs to do in order to be successful against the Tigers on the 29th?
#11 MATT CALVERT: the tigers are a fast hard working team. we need to match their work ethic and play a good defensive game

#11 MATT CALVERT: my feet are size 11

#11 MATT CALVERT: i can't give away any secrets. come watch the next shootout. hopefully i'll be in it and you can see for yourself

#11 MATT CALVERT: i love all our d-man
Geoffrey: I have to ask, who was the first to tag you guys(you, Schenn and Glennie) the "Baby Blues"?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i am not sure who tagged us the baby blues. it might've been Crim or Bruce Luebke. A big influence was our baby blue practice jerseys
Rico: Which NHL'ers do Schenn and Glennie remind you of?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i would compare Brayden Schenn to Jarome Iginla and Scott Glennie to Marian Gaborik. the kid can bury
dump: what kind of curve do you use?
#11 MATT CALVERT: I use a Drury curve. It's dirty
chickenlegz: With the loss of Matt McCue who would you say is filling the role as "enforcer" on the team?
#11 MATT CALVERT: Matt McCue was a big loss but i definitely think jordan hale stepped up to the plate. the guy can chuck em'
Steve: I know it's a year away still, but how excited are you about the possibility of playing in the Memorial Cup next season in your hometown?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i am very excited about the Mem Cup coming to brandon. it'd be an unbeleivable experience to play in such a great event
Bill Brasky: is it true that you broke your arm, when you were younger, in a back yard base ball game? how is that possible?
#11 MATT CALVERT: yes i did break my arm in a backyard baseball game. just giving a shout out to brodi workman
hockeychik4: what is your pump up music, to get you into the game
#11 MATT CALVERT: i like to listen to techno to get me pumped up. it gets the blood flowing
scitch: i hear you are a big backstreet boys fan, did you go to the concert
#11 MATT CALVERT: i enjoy the backstreet boys concerts
WheatieFan: Matt, how did you feel at the time when you were sent to aaa midget at 17? how do you feel it helped your development?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i feel it was great for my development when i got to play a 3rd year of aaa. we won the league that year and i played with some great guys and had some good coaches
Geoffrey: Do you sing along to the anthem before the games?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i don't sing along ot the anthem before games. i try to focus on the next shift
dump: whats your fav rink to play in?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite rink last year was Everett Silvertips rink. great atmosphere
big-fan: whats a typical day of Matt Calvert on game day??
#11 MATT CALVERT: I like to watch movies on game day then have a good pre game nap then have a good meal that my mom makes haha. chicken pasta salad
Geoffrey: Who do you usually room with on a road trip?
#11 MATT CALVERT: we room with different guys everywhere we stay. all the guys are great so no worries
Rico: Who's your fave NHL player, and fave NHL team?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite NHL player is Martin St. Louis and my favourite team is the Columbus Blue Jackets
chickenlegz: What do you see yourself doing after your hockey career?
#11 MATT CALVERT: I would like to open up a business after my hockey career. it's a big interest of mine

#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite video game is NHL 09 with Call of Duty 4 comin in a close second
jacy fisher: Who do u compare yourself to and or like to model your game after in the NHL?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i like to compare myself to Martin St. Louis. He's a great player and fought hard to get where he is

#11 MATT CALVERT: i have many supersitions too many too type

#11 MATT CALVERT: the dirtiest player might be andrew clark. the kid can slash

chickenlegz: What NHL player are you looking forward to playing against the most?
#11 MATT CALVERT: if i am lucky enough to make the NHL i would love to play against Sidney Crosby and just see hwo he handles himself

#11 MATT CALVERT: i can't grow a good muzzie yet. maybe in a few years i can get a nice one

#11 MATT CALVERT: i like to think i can snipe in NHL 09. my xbox username is mcalv, ranked 8000 in the world if anyone wants a peice
joey tomato: do you like to play hockey on the outdoor rinks
#11 MATT CALVERT: i grew up playing everynight i could on the outdoor rinks. i love it
WheatieFan: who will win fastest skater at skills day?
#11 MATT CALVERT: Glennie would probably be the fastest skater or Chad Erb close match
big-fan: who would you say has the best nickname
#11 MATT CALVERT: the best nickname would have to be Donkey Lowry
jonathan: specifically what do you do in the summer for off ice training.
#11 MATT CALVERT: i work on my speed off the ice and try to make my legs and core a lot stronger
Geoffrey: Before I go, Matt, I just wanna say......You are by far my fav player to watch. I don't see you just making the NHL, but making waves there. Your hard work is an inspiration to all. I wish you the very best. But, selfishly, could you not make it til after next season so you can help bring home the Mem Cup?
#11 MATT CALVERT: thank you Geoffrey i appreciate it. i'm worried about winning the Mem Cup this year so thats a decision i'll have to make when the time comes.

#11 MATT CALVERT: i would like Call of Duty 5 and the whole gossip girl series of course haha
dump: who would like to play on a line with the most in the 2 games of the chl vs russia series?
#11 MATT CALVERT: there are going to be a lot of good players at the canada russia ADT Challenge. i'd love to play with them all especially tyler ennis. he's one of the best in the league
hockeychik4: what do you think about Aaron Lewadniuk, do you think he plays like you?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i think Lewadniuk is a great player. he always gave us troubles in the old AAA Wheat kings vs. pembina valley hawks day. he sticks up for teammates and can put the puck in the net. what more cna you ask for

Rico: Which of your goals you've scored has meant the most to you?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my first goal was really memorable. it probably meant the most to me to get off to a good start last year early on
Alex: Do you ever lip off to the refs? What really toots your horn? Homers?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i try to respect the refs. they have their nights

#11 MATT CALVERT: I'm not nervous to play Spokane. They are a good team but we are too so we're just going to have to work hard
chickenlegz: how do you entertain yourself on the long bus trips to Medicine Hat?
#11 MATT CALVERT: the bus trips can get quite long but you got 20+ guys to hang out with and have a good time. I like to play PSP and play cards. Cribs a big hit on the bus
hound dog: whats your favorite dairy queen treat? and are you craving it right now?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite dq treat is the blizzard. i'm cravin a real blizzard outside so the outdoor rinks can get going

#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite wheat king would have to Keith "Hightower" Aulie. The guys a beauty haha all the guys are great. You gotta love the captain though
jacy fisher: Any regrets about not coming to the WHL until you graduated from AAA midget?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i didn't have a chance to play in the WHL until my midget career was over. i was 5 feet in midget so it was tough for me to get noticed
Alex: Do you have any pets? During the winter, do you throw your Wheaties jersey on your puppy and take him for a nice stroll around Brandon?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i have a cat, best cat in the world
chris b: what are you looking forward to the most about the Canada Russia series
#11 MATT CALVERT: I'm looking forward to representing Canada and the WHL. I've never been to the under 17/18 hockey tournaments so it's going to be a new and exciting experience
dump: wats your favorite sport other than hockey?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite sport is golf in the summer. it's always competitive trying to beat your personal best
wk_fan: What do you think has been the reason for the teams slow start this year?
#11 MATT CALVERT: we have had good stretches this year and we're going to take it one game at a time. it's a 72 game season. Lots of games left!
chris b: where do you want to play next year nhl or whl?
#11 MATT CALVERT: well it would nice to play in the NHL but it's a long road and you have to work very hard so i'll try my best in camp and we'll se what happens
hockeychik4: what radio station do you listen to ?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i listen to 94.7, 96.1, and of course before i made the wheat kings good old 880
chickenlegz: Who has a bigger 5 hole Hayes or Priestner?
#11 MATT CALVERT: They don't have any holes. They're brick walls
dump: in the ahl or nhl when you play would you ever consider wearing a tinted visor?
#11 MATT CALVERT: I probably would not wear a tinted visor. Unless I could score like Ovechkin

#11 MATT CALVERT: the WHL is a very tough league you have to be ready everynight. it's what i expected

#11 MATT CALVERT: some guys can talk pretty dirty but it's all in the fun of the game. There's some guys that like to run their mouth but thats why there's fighting!
chickenlegz: Who has helped you the most to get where you are today?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my parents have encouraged me my whole career and i always wanted to beat my older bros at everything so that inspired me
dump: you ever consider going tongues out like fehr and clarky? its pretty sick style
#11 MATT CALVERT: I would never consider going tongues out. Not my style. It suits those two well
Alex: Do any of your family members take road trips to cheer you on?
#11 MATT CALVERT: my family members from manitoba travel many kilometers to come watch me so i get a lot of support from them everygame. it's nice living at home
ScottD: How did you find out when you where drafted by Columbus?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i was watching the Draft on NHL TV and i saw my name behind the tsn crew then shortly after received phone calls from Columbus and many family members
hockeychik4: what did you think about Colby Robak's fight, did you expect it?
#11 MATT CALVERT: Robak is a strong kid. i wouldnt mess with the guy. good fight
wk_fan: Which WHL cities do you enjoy playing in besides Brandon?
#11 MATT CALVERT: i like playing in calgary and edmonton
Rico: So you're a golfer, what brand is your favourite driver?!!
#11 MATT CALVERT: my favourite driver would have to be the taylor made burner. i won a long drive challenge in a tourny this year with it. would love to be able to purchase one someday haha
