Brandon, Manitoba -- Two third period goals, including one on a penalty shot by Dallas Stars' first round draft choice Scott Glennie lifted the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-3 victory over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders Saturday night.

The win - Brandon's second in as many nights - coupled with Saskatoon's 3-0 loss to the Regina Pats, leaves the Wheat Kings one point back of the Blades in the battle for top spot in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division. It also sets up a first place showdown on Wednesday night at Westman Place.

"I practice that move a lot in practice and its good that it went it,"  Glennie told Bruce Luebke on CKLQ's post game show on Saturday. "I've used that move on a regular basis lately and I've used it on my shootouts this year and it's worked well for me."

Brandon opened up the weekend by blanking the Chilliwack Bruins 3-0 on Friday. Toni Rajala scored twice and Jacob DeSerres made 25 saves in recording his second shutout of the season and ninth of his WHL career.

Brayden Schenn, Matt Calvert and Jay Fehr rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who improved their record to 44-18-1-3, good for 92 points.

Justin Maylan had a pair of Prince Albert while Brandon Herrod added his team-leading 36th of the season in a losing cause.

Saturday was the final regular season meeting of the season between these two teams and the bad blood seemed to boil over late in the third period when Calvert was knocked into Raiders' goalkeeper Garret Zemlak by Prince Albert defenceman Nathan Deck. Zemlak threw a number of punches at Calvert to pick up a roughing penalty and took a second roughing penalty just seconds later after punching Brandon forward Shayne Wiebe.

The loss could prove costly for the Raiders, who fell to 30-30-3-2 on the year. With only seven games remaining in the regular season, Prince Albert finds itself  five points back of the Swift Current Broncos and the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

Tickets to Wednesday's game between the Wheat Kings and Blades are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca

Wednesday night is Whopper Wednesday at Westman Place. However, it is not Rain Check Night. The second and final Rain Check Night of the 2009-10 camapign is scheduled for Wednesday, March 10th when Brandon plays host to the Moose Jaw Warriors. Fans can redeem any unused Wheat King tickets (post-Christmas home games) at the box office for a “free“ ticket to this game.
